Vigna unguiculata
The Rouge et Noir pea is an heirloom cowpea originating from Washington Parish, Louisiana, preserved through generations by the Lang family. Aptly named "Red and Black" in French, the peas are initially red when fresh and turn black when dried. The plants are vigorous and semi-vining with long, 10-in pods containing large seeds each. Traditionally prepared with lima beans and green peanuts in Louisiana.
