Plate de Haiti Tomato
Plate de Haiti Tomato
Solanum lycopersicum
This tomato is incredibly high-yielding, consistently producing heavy harvests of round, 2” fruits up until the frost. For the best flavor, wait to harvest until the fruits are a deep vermillion red. Plate de Haiti is great in stews, sauces and for roasting. This indeterminate tomato is a fast and vigorous grower with good disease resistance.
According to food historian William Woys Weaver, Plate de Haiti has been grown in Haiti and the Dominican Republic since before the 1560’s. The seeds were brought into North America in 1793 by Creole people who fled after the Haitian Revolution.
