Benne Sesame

Benne is a West African landrace sesame that was carried into the United States by enslaved Africans who grew it in their gardens. The flavorful seeds can be used a flavoring ingredient in dishes, made into a dessert or pressed into oil. The leaves and young seed pods are also edible and similar to those of okra.
